Vitrified bricks are made by firing earthen soil at high temperatures and pressures, which results in a dense structure. However, the surface of these bricks still contains tiny pores that can easily absorb stains. To address this issue, many manufacturers apply a protective wax layer on the brick surface to prevent dirt from penetrating into the body of the brick. However, since the quality of vitrified tiles varies significantly between brands, their stain resistance may also differ. Therefore, it’s crucial to take proper precautions during installation to ensure long-term performance and aesthetics.
First, before installation, make sure the bricks have been properly waxed. If they haven’t, reapply a layer of wax for better protection. To check if the wax has been applied, look for a thin waxy film on the surface. The texture should feel slightly dull or foggy, and your fingers might leave visible marks when touched.
Second, during construction, workers should use a rubber mallet wrapped in a white cloth to avoid damaging the surface. Bricks with poor stain resistance may show dark marks when struck with a leather hammer, which are difficult to remove later.
Third, after laying the tiles, avoid walking on them immediately. The bricks need time to dry, and stepping on them too soon can cause unevenness or damage to the surface.
Fourth, cover the newly laid tiles with a protective film or tarp to prevent sand, dust, and paint from contaminating the surface. This is especially important during other renovation activities where spills or splatters may occur.
Fifth, avoid placing heavy objects, such as air compressors or consoles, directly on the tile surface. Use soft padding underneath to prevent vibration and potential wear on the brick surface.
Sixth, when moving furniture or heavy items, always lift them instead of dragging them across the tiles. Dragging can scratch or damage the surface over time.
Finally, once the renovation is complete, thoroughly clean the tile surface to remove any residue or debris. A clean surface makes future maintenance much easier and helps preserve the appearance of the vitrified bricks for years to come.
