In the past year, the city initiated targeted occupational health enforcement actions focusing on key industries. As a result, 17 companies were penalized for failing to implement proper occupational disease prevention measures and for having workers diagnosed with occupational diseases. This year, the city plans to continue its occupational health campaign, specifically targeting dust-related hazards in cement manufacturing and stone processing companies.
According to the head of the Occupational Health Division at the Municipal Safety Supervision Bureau, in April 2013, the city launched a special cleanup initiative in the sanitary ware industry. Over 80 companies with violations received rectification notices, 25 cases were filed, and 17 companies were subjected to administrative penalties, totaling 1.408 million yuan in fines. Most of these companies were from the ceramic sanitary ware sector. Notably, the city has strictly enforced the "three simultaneous" principle for occupational health in new construction projects—ensuring that occupational disease prevention facilities are designed, constructed, and put into operation alongside the main project. This year, the city ranks first in the province in terms of approved projects.
"Why do occupational diseases occur? A major reason is that some projects lack essential safety measures from the start," the official explained. "Implementing the 'three simultaneous' policy effectively prevents occupational diseases at their root."
In 2013, the city created occupational health records for 9,160 enterprises, covering 76.92% of all declared businesses. This year, the city will continue to promote occupational health standards by establishing model enterprises. Alongside ongoing supervision of the sanitary ware industry, special efforts will be made to address dust hazards in cement and stone processing companies.
