Traditional thread processing methods primarily rely on thread turning tools, taps, and dies for manual tapping or threading. However, with the advancement of CNC machining technology, especially the introduction of three-axis CNC systems, a more sophisticated technique has emerged: thread milling. This modern approach offers significant improvements in both accuracy and efficiency compared to conventional methods. Unlike traditional techniques, thread milling is not restricted by thread geometry or rotation direction during the cutting process. For instance, a thread milling cutter can easily handle threads in various directions—both internal and external. It also excels when dealing with complex or restricted thread structures that cannot accommodate a tap or die, such as those requiring no undercut or transition. In such cases, traditional methods often struggle, while CNC milling makes the task straightforward and efficient. Additionally, thread milling cutters typically last ten times longer than taps, and adjusting the thread diameter size is much easier during the CNC milling process. This flexibility and durability make thread milling an increasingly popular choice in modern manufacturing environments.
