But today, as I stepped into these heavy and secure shoes, I suddenly felt a deep emotional connection to them,†said a staff member from the oilfield operations company on March 19, in a feedback message to the comprehensive service office’s labor protection factory.
“With the early spring production season approaching, the workload for frontline workers has increased significantly. We need to ensure that our employees can wear new labor protection shoes as soon as possible. First, the four operating areas must be fully equipped with the necessary protective gear.†While the oilfield teams are working hard to meet production targets, the labor protection factory is also busy supplying essential equipment to the front lines. In the early days of March, the factory resumed full-scale production to meet growing demands.
The shoe-making workshop is a specialized team within the labor protection factory, where over 80% of the employees have disabilities. Despite this, they have consistently maintained high-quality standards, ensuring every worker receives a reliable pair of labor insurance shoes.
These seemingly simple and heavy boots go through more than 40 steps before reaching the final product, with each pair being handcrafted by multiple hands. “We produce 40 pairs of finished labor insurance shoes per day, which might not sound like a lot, but every single one is made entirely by hand. The work is physically demanding and requires a great deal of precision,†shared one of the workers.
The process of making labor protection shoes is both time-consuming and complex. Employees in the shoe workshop take their responsibilities seriously, constantly improving their skills to meet the evolving needs of frontline workers who now demand better quality and comfort in their protective footwear. From design to stitching, every step is filled with their effort and expertise.
Wang Jinming, the team leader of the shoe-making workshop, has spent 30 years in this industry. He knows every detail of the shoe-making process. Today, he oversees the first stage—cutting out the upper parts of the shoes from 5mm thick fleece material, aiming to maximize leather usage and minimize waste. He stands for eight hours a day, yet he never complains. “I’ve had moments of doubt, but when I think about the value of my work, I know I can’t give up.â€
One of the most challenging parts of the process is molding the soles. “You can tell who made the soles just by looking at the bottom of the shoe, because even a small mistake, like a nail accidentally caught in the sole, could be dangerous,†said Zhang Li, director of the labor protection factory. “For the safety of our frontline workers, we believe it's all worth it.â€
