A hotel located on Zijinshan Road, with a business area exceeding 1,000 square meters, was temporarily closed by the Development Zone Fire Brigade due to serious fire safety violations. On the night of the 23rd, inspectors discovered that emergency lighting and fire alarm detectors on the fifth-floor corridor were non-functional, rendering them ineffective in case of an emergency. Additionally, the safety exit on the west side of the third floor was blocked, creating a major risk for guests and staff.
The inspection revealed that the hotel is housed in a five-story building, with the second floor partially separated. The first and third through fifth floors are used as service areas and contain more than 40 guest rooms. During the investigation, officials found that the evacuation route on the third floor was obstructed, making it impossible for people to escape quickly in the event of a fire. This could lead to severe casualties if a fire were to occur.
Further checks showed that the emergency lights and fire alarms on the fifth floor were damaged and not working. The fire hydrants in the corridors were also in poor condition, and the evacuation signs did not meet the required standards. These deficiencies posed a significant threat to public safety.
As a result of these violations, which clearly breached the "Fire Law of the People's Republic of China," the fire brigade ordered an immediate shutdown of the hotel’s power distribution system. The hotel manager was reprimanded and informed of the critical fire hazards present.
"I didn't expect to stay in such an unsafe place. I'm really relieved that there hasn't been a fire yet," one visitor said, visibly shaken.
Firefighters urged the public to report any fire hazards they encounter by calling 96119. They emphasized that all reports would be addressed promptly to ensure public safety.
This incident highlights the importance of regular fire inspections and proper maintenance of safety equipment in public buildings. It serves as a reminder that even small oversights can have life-threatening consequences.
