Yucheng County, known as the "Hometown of Diamond Powder in China," is making remarkable progress in its diamond industry. Recently, the county's industrial cluster has achieved significant milestones, including five provincial-level high-tech enterprises, 84 national intellectual property rights, and 13 invention patents. The provincial government has approved the establishment of a "Provincial High-Tech Industrial Development Zone," which was also recognized by the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology as a "Demonstration Zone for Industrial and Chemical Integration." Yucheng now stands among the four county-level provincial high-tech parks approved by the province.
Two key companies, Power New Materials and Huifeng Diamond Technology, have successfully upgraded to provincial and even national high-tech enterprises. Additionally, the county’s Entrepreneurship Service Center was officially established, filling a long-standing gap in the region’s technology incubation system.
Yucheng has earned prestigious titles such as "National Science and Technology Progress Advanced County" and "Ten Fast Counties in Provincial Industrial Agglomeration Construction." It is now recognized as the "Henan Province Diamond Micro Powder and Products High-Tech Characteristic Industrial Base" and a "Provincial Characteristic Equipment Industrial Park." These achievements mark a new chapter in the county's efforts to drive scientific innovation and upgrade its diamond industry.
To further boost the diamond sector, Yucheng has adopted effective strategies such as "integrating construction with production, combining research and education." Over 20 experts in superhard materials have been invited to conduct technical training. Enterprises like Xinhua Superhard, Hongxiang, Huifeng, Wanke, and Xiangtai have partnered with more than ten research institutes, including Northeastern University of Technology, Henan University of Technology, and Nanjing Hangda, as well as the Provincial Science and Technology Department, to establish joint research and development bases.
The county has continuously increased investments in science and technology and talent recruitment, setting up a special innovation fund of 50 million yuan to support advanced technologies and process improvements. Several provincial engineering technology centers, laboratories, and the Henan Diamond Industry Testing Center have been built. Postdoctoral mobile stations and research facilities were also established, leading to the successful introduction of 8 doctors, 30 masters, and over 150 senior technical personnel. These efforts have significantly enhanced the county’s capabilities in new product R&D, patent transformation, and diamond testing.
In recent years, Yucheng has focused on expanding and optimizing the diamond industry chain, promoting vertical integration from "artificial single crystal diamond—synthetic diamond extraction—diamond powder processing—diamond products." The range of products has expanded from low- to medium-end abrasives to high-precision applications such as automotive components, high-speed rail parts, and aerospace materials, greatly improving market competitiveness and industrial support.
By 2012, Yucheng's diamond industrial zone had an annual output of 1 billion carats of diamonds, 4.5 billion carats of diamond powder, and over 7 million diamond products. It became the largest and most complete diamond industry cluster in China. Currently, the county is accelerating the construction of three major diamond projects—Houde, Jinrui, and Advanced—and actively working to create a provincial new industrialization demonstration base. It is also striving to be designated a national high-tech characteristic industrial base, aiming to elevate the reputation of Yucheng's diamond industry across the country and globally.
