LED energy-efficient lamps come in various types, and currently, the market offers essentially three main categories. The first type consists of LED energy-saving lamps made from straw-shaped low-power LEDs. These often employ an RC circuit for the power supply. The straw hat-style LED is simply an extension of the LED packaging form, with the epoxy resin package preventing efficient heat dissipation. This leads to significant light degradation over time. Many white LEDs increase in color temperature after prolonged use, turning bluer and dimmer. Some manufacturers strive to develop straw-type LEDs with reduced light degradation, but since the packaging remains unchanged, the issue persists. These LED energy-saving lamps are relatively inexpensive but of poor quality. The second type involves LED energy-saving lamps built using 3528 or 5050 SMD power LEDs. Their power supply typically uses a buck circuit with resistors and capacitors. Some manufacturers opt for a constant current circuit. Compared to straw hat LEDs, these have slightly better heat dissipation due to their heat-conductive substrates. When paired with an aluminum substrate, they can extract some heat. However, many medium-power SMD LED energy-saving lamps lack proper heat sinks, often using plastic casings, which still results in significant light degradation. Low-end power supplies based on resistor-capacitor circuits can be affected by unstable grid voltages, causing fluctuations in brightness and current. These lamps offer moderate pricing and slightly better quality than the first type. The third category includes high-power LED energy-saving lamps. These lamps use high-power SMD LEDs, with power supplies generally employing a constant current isolation circuit. For instance, a 5W LED might use five 1-watt LED chips connected in series, powered by a constant current source of 300mA. The wide-voltage power supply ensures stable current despite fluctuations in the power grid, maintaining consistent luminous flux. The five-chip LEDs are soldered onto an aluminum substrate, which is combined with a heatsink to dissipate heat efficiently and quickly, keeping the LED chip's temperature below the allowed junction temperature of the LED. This ensures the true lifespan of the LED energy-saving lamp. These lamps are more expensive but of superior quality and represent the future direction of LED energy-saving lamps. A good LED energy-saving lamp should comprise four key components: a high-quality LED chip, a constant-current isolated power supply, an appropriately sized heatsink relative to the lamp’s power, and a light-diffusing effect that is soft and does not directly expose the light source. In summary, while the market offers a range of options, it's crucial to balance cost with performance. Investing in higher-quality lamps with advanced thermal management and reliable power supplies will ultimately provide better long-term value and satisfaction.
