(l) Plasterboard
Gypsum board is a lightweight construction material made from gypsum slurry as the core, with paper on both sides. It's known for its light weight, high strength, fire resistance, and ease of cutting and installation. Standard plasterboard is commonly used for interior walls, partitions, and ceilings. Fire-resistant and water-resistant versions are ideal for areas with higher humidity, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms, where tiling or other finishes like metal or plastic panels can be applied.
(2) Decorative Plasterboard
Decorative gypsum boards are designed with intricate patterns, floral motifs, and textures, typically made from building gypsum mixed with fiber materials. Examples include printed gypsum boards, perforated ceiling tiles, embossed panels, and paper-faced decorative boards. These are popular in mid to high-end interior design due to their lightweight, fireproof, moisture-resistant properties, and easy installation. A newer version, the resin-impregnated waterproof gypsum board, features realistic patterns and is resistant to stains and easy to clean. It serves as an excellent alternative to natural stone and terrazzo for wall cladding, cornices, and skirting boards.
(3) Gypsum Hollow Strip
Gypsum hollow strips are lightweight, hollow boards made primarily from building gypsum, combined with fillers or fibers. Unlike traditional gypsum boards, they don’t require paper backing or adhesives, and they can be installed without a framework. This makes them a fast-developing option for internal walls and partitioning systems.
(4) Fiber Gypsum Board
Fiber-reinforced gypsum boards are made by combining building gypsum with fiber materials to improve flexural strength. They are suitable for interior walls, partitions, and even furniture applications, offering a wood-like alternative that’s durable and easy to work with.
In recent years, the production of standard gypsum boards has declined slightly, while decorative and specialized products like sound-absorbing, insulating, and refractory panels have gained popularity. The size and thickness of gypsum boards are also evolving to meet modern architectural demands.
Beyond traditional uses, gypsum products are now being applied in new ways, such as floor tiles, exterior wall substrates, and structural core materials. Their versatility continues to expand, making them a key component in modern construction and interior design.
