Quick-Opening Diaphragm Filter Press The first quick-opening diaphragm filter press developed in China was introduced in the late 1990s, known as the KM-type fast diaphragm filter press. It uses filter media to separate solid particles from liquids, functioning as a pressure filtration device. Compared to conventional box filter presses, it offers several advantages: (1) Multi-port feeding allows for faster filling, even distribution of the filter cloth, and better cake formation. (2) Utilizing main and slave multi-cylinder synchronous pressing technology ensures even and strong pressure application on the filter plates, with excellent edge sealing. Even under high pressure and large flow rates, there is no material spraying. (3) A unique hydraulic drive system enables group opening and closing, along with a ring chain pull-open mechanism and a misalignment unloading system, allowing for rapid unloading. The secondary diaphragm dewatering process results in lower moisture content in the filter cake. (4) The introduction of a filtrate flow detection device ensures that the filter chamber is fully filled, enabling full automation of the entire filter press system. Second, the basic filtration mechanism of the quick-opening dry filter press involves alternating hot-pressed diaphragm filter plates and drying plates. Mechanical filtration of the suspension and cake occurs within the filter chamber, followed by a hot-pressure filtration and drying stage. A heat transfer medium (such as steam or heat transfer oil) is introduced into the drying plates, while the liquid discharge channels are evacuated. The diaphragm then mechanically compresses the filter cake, causing capillary water near the drying plates to evaporate quickly through conduction. The resulting steam expands rapidly, pushing the remaining capillary water from the cake’s surface in liquid form, effectively removing it. According to the relationship between moisture and calorific value in coal, every 1% reduction in moisture can increase the calorific value by 4,118 kJ. Reducing the moisture content in coal slurry prevents storage issues and eliminates environmental pollution from open storage. The quick-opening dry filter press combines mechanical filtration and thermal drying in one step, achieving deep dewatering of flotation clean coal and transforming coal slime from a by-product into commercial thermal coal. Since thermal coal is 3–4 times more valuable than coal slime, this equipment brings significant economic benefits to companies. As coal slurry production increases, the demand for such filters is rising, making them a promising future direction in coal processing. Third, Pressure Filter Press Currently, pressure filtration technology is still evolving. For instance, integrating drying technology into pressure filtration can reduce the moisture content of the discharged material. In cases of constant volume heating, internal pressure naturally rises, reducing the air volume and wind pressure needed for existing pressure filters. However, incorporating drying technology may also increase energy consumption. As pressure filtration technology advances, this concept could become a reality in the near future. The filter press remains a key component in the recycling and washing systems of coal slurry plants, driving continuous improvements and innovations in filtration technology.
