Wooden doors and windows prices hit the tide

As the spring season begins, the home improvement market is finally in full swing. While homeowners are preparing to purchase bulk building materials, they've noticed that some home construction material markets have already started rising. According to recent reports, many building material brands announced price hikes in March, with increases ranging from 5% to 10%. This general price increase affects a wide range of products, including wooden doors, flooring, cabinets, sanitary ware, and furniture. For example, a popular brand of wooden doors was priced at 1,380 yuan before the Spring Festival, but after the adjustment, it now costs 1,460 yuan—an increase of 5.7%. Another well-known brand’s 1.5-meter solid wood bed, which was previously sold for 3,200 yuan, may soon reach around 3,500 yuan, marking a 9.3% rise. Industry sources suggest that this trend is largely driven by increased logistics and raw material costs. The reasons behind this significant price surge are multifaceted. Analysts point out that rising production costs are the primary factor. Prices of raw materials like coal, oil, bamboo lumber, metal, and PVC have continued to climb, pushing up overall manufacturing expenses. These rising costs have forced companies to pass on the burden to consumers. Additionally, inflation across the country has led to higher wage demands for workers. A senior executive from a leading door and window brand mentioned, “The labor cost increase after the Spring Festival is 3%, which is the most significant contributor to the price hike in door and window products.” They also noted that the current recruitment period has been particularly challenging, with labor costs soaring. “Although prices haven’t gone up yet, we know it’s just a matter of time,” they said. For homeowners, the pressure from these price increases isn't just felt by businesses. Ms. Wang, who is currently renovating her home, shared her frustration: “Last month I saw a bed for 2,980 yuan, but I hesitated too long and didn’t buy it. When I came back this month, the price had already gone up to 3,035 yuan—I regretted it so much!” Meanwhile, Mr. Cui, another homeowner, decided to act early. “Even though our house won’t be ready until the second half of the year, we’ve already placed all our orders,” he said. It’s clear that many homeowners are trying to avoid the financial impact of rising prices by planning ahead.
