Graphite industry listed as a strategic emerging industry in Heilongjiang Province

On January 14, the Heilongjiang Provincial Government held a press conference to discuss the development of the graphite industry. Representatives from the Provincial Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, the Jixi Municipal Government, and the Jixi Graphite Production Enterprise Alliance shared updates on the progress and future plans for the sector. This event highlighted the growing importance of graphite in both industrial and agricultural applications, as well as the province's strategic efforts to position itself as a key player in the global market. In recent years, the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau and the Jixi Municipal Government have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at fostering sustainable growth in the graphite industry. Their collaboration includes setting up national and provincial testing institutions, establishing standardization technical committees, and developing technical standards at multiple levels. These initiatives are designed to support the industry's healthy and orderly development. Heilongjiang is rich in graphite resources, particularly in Jixi and Hegang, making it a major production hub in China. The provincial government has recognized the significance of new graphite materials, designating it among the top ten industries in the region. It was also included in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" as a key strategic emerging industry. The Jixi and Hegang Quality and Technical Supervision Centers play a crucial role in ensuring product quality through rigorous testing and inspection. Since 1998, these centers have been conducting regular inspections of graphite products. In December 2011, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the establishment of the National Graphite Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, with plans to create a sub-center in Hegang. In July 2013, the Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision authorized Jixi to establish a professional standardization technical committee for graphite products, with plans for a sub-committee in Hegang. The Jixi Municipal Government emphasized the city's unique advantages in resource availability, industrial infrastructure, and supportive policies. In 2014, the local government launched an initiative to build "two black and one green" industrial clusters, focusing on deep processing of graphite and the development of new material industries. This includes seven major industrial chains, such as sealing materials, superhard materials, energy storage, refractory, and conductive materials. Han Yufeng, a representative from the Jixi Graphite Production Enterprise Alliance, stressed the need for independent innovation, extending the industrial chain, strengthening standard systems, and building a strong brand for Longjiang graphite. He also highlighted the importance of talent development to ensure long-term, sustainable growth in the sector.
