Graphite industry listed as a strategic emerging industry in Heilongjiang Province

On January 14, the Heilongjiang Provincial Government held a press conference to discuss the development of the graphite industry. Representatives from the Provincial Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau, the Jixi Municipal Government, and the Jixi Graphite Production Enterprise Alliance shared updates on the progress and future direction of the sector. In recent years, the Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau and the Jixi Municipal Government have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at fostering the sustainable growth of the graphite industry. This collaboration includes establishing national and provincial testing institutions, forming professional standardization committees, and researching technical standards at the national, provincial, and enterprise levels. These efforts are being actively implemented to support the industry's healthy development. Graphite plays a vital role as a raw material in both industrial and agricultural sectors in China. Jixi and Hegang are rich in graphite resources, making them key production hubs for graphite products nationwide. The provincial government has recognized the importance of the new graphite material industry, positioning it among the top ten industries in the province. It was also included in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" as a strategic emerging industry. The Jixi and Hegang Quality and Technical Supervision Centers have long been responsible for monitoring and inspecting graphite products. Since 1998, they have conducted regular quality checks. In December 2011, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the establishment of the National Graphite Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. Plans are underway to set up a sub-center in Hegang. In July 2013, the Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision authorized Jixi to establish a provincial graphite product standardization technical committee, with plans to create a Hegang branch. Jixi officials highlighted the city's competitive advantages in developing the graphite industry, including abundant natural resources, strong industrial foundations, and supportive policies. In 2014, the city launched initiatives to build "two black and one green" industrial clusters, focusing on deep processing of graphite and the development of new materials. This includes seven major industrial chains such as sealing materials, superhard materials, energy storage, refractory materials, and conductive materials. The city is also working to develop the Jixi Graphite Industrial Park, aiming to be part of the national plan for 100 alternative industrial parks. Han Yufeng, a representative from the Jixi Graphite Production Enterprise Alliance, emphasized the need for independent innovation, expanding the industrial chain, strengthening standards, and building a strong brand. He also stressed the importance of talent development to ensure long-term, sustainable growth in the graphite sector.
