As the Year of the Snake approaches, Tongzhou District is preparing for its annual fireworks sales, set to begin on February 5, 2013, coinciding with the Lunar New Year. Immediately after the sale, the first batch of fireworks and firecrackers has been securely stored, marking a significant increase in security measures. Recently, a reporter visited the Tongzhou District Security Supervision Bureau to learn more about the current status of fireworks storage.
According to the warehouse manager, over 9,000 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers have been stored following the initial sales. The facility has increased staff presence to ensure 24-hour monitoring. An advanced infrared protection system has been installed along the outer walls, capable of detecting even the smallest movements—such as a bird flying by—and triggering an alarm instantly. The warehouse is also equipped with high-resolution video surveillance systems, allowing managers to monitor conditions remotely via computer. This system is connected to both the district and city-level security supervision departments, ensuring real-time oversight.
At the entrance of each warehouse, an electrostatic discharge device is installed. Anyone entering must touch a stainless-steel ball to eliminate static electricity, which could otherwise pose a risk. Before entering, all electronic devices such as mobile phones must be turned off, and only eight people are permitted inside at any given time. Temperature and humidity levels are continuously monitored using dedicated tables, helping to prevent spontaneous combustion of the fireworks.
During a recent on-site inspection, law enforcement officers checked the quality and compliance of the stored products. They found that all fireworks and firecrackers are managed through a comprehensive system, with electronic tags used to track their entire lifecycle—from production to transportation, storage, and distribution. Each box features a unique chip embedded in the packaging, enabling officials to scan and retrieve detailed information, including product name, ingredients, manufacturing date, and inventory status. This technology ensures full traceability and enhances safety control.
On the same day, officials conducted a thorough inspection of the warehouses, verifying that the types, specifications, and storage capacity of the fireworks met all regulatory requirements. They also assessed ventilation, stacking methods, and overall safety conditions.
