Polycarbonate sheet is 25% higher than ordinary glass, impact strength is 250 times that of glass, and weight is only 1/2 of glass, so PC is an ideal lighting material for architectural decoration industry. PC sheet has a wide range of applications in a wide range of large-area lighting roofs, stair railings and high-rise building lighting facilities.
The automobile is another important terminal application of the PC. The consumption ratio in developed countries is about 20%, but the domestic consumption ratio is only about 5%. The more obvious the trend of lightweight vehicles, polycarbonate has excellent impact strength, easy mold processing, and significantly reduced weight compared to traditional materials such as high-speed steel and aluminum alloy. In addition, PC films used in the field of optoelectronics, light-diffusing PCs for LED lighting, and radiation-resistant PCs in medical devices are potential hot spots in the future. According to estimates, the Chinese polycarbonate market will continue to grow by 8%-10% in the future.
At present, global polycarbonate supply is highly concentrated. Due to the high threshold of polycarbonate production technology, the production capacity is mainly concentrated in multinational chemical companies, and the supply is highly concentrated. According to the authoritative ICIS and Bayer statistics, the world's top six companies account for up to 94% of capacity. Due to the strict control of technology by international giants, domestic polycarbonate plant production is mostly invested by foreign companies or Sino-foreign joint ventures. In 2016, China's actual production was only 570,000 tons, and imports exceeded 1.319 million tons.
