Corporate survey: domestic protective equipment parcels international brands

In recent years, with growing attention on labor protection in China, the number of domestic companies producing high-quality safety equipment has significantly increased. The question remains: can these local brands compete with well-established international names? A recent survey conducted by the Labor Safety Professional Committee of the China Safety Production Association has shed light on this issue, revealing that Chinese labor protection products are not only improving but also gaining recognition. The Top 50 Labor Protection Enterprises and Product User Satisfaction Survey was recently announced, highlighting the rapid development of the domestic sector. According to Liu Xurong, Secretary General of the Labor Protection Committee, the selection process involved over 1,000 companies nationwide. What sets this survey apart is its commitment to fairness and transparency—no fees were charged, no special safety certifications were required, and company membership in the committee was not a prerequisite for participation. Instead, the evaluation focused on the average sales performance of each company over the past three years. This approach ensured that the results reflected real market success rather than external influence. The absence of bribes or lobbying made the findings more credible and widely accepted. When compared to foreign competitors, the results were quite surprising. While Honeywell Life Safety Group from the U.S. topped the list, more than 20 of the top 50 companies were actually domestic. Notable names include Zhejiang Seine Group, Hebi Feihe Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Blue Sky Garment Co. Shanghai Shima Footwear, ranked 18th, achieved nearly 100 million yuan in sales last year, with several top companies reaching hundreds of millions annually. Only three major foreign brands managed to make it into the top 50, with one at the top, another around the 20th position, and the third further down the list. This indicates that domestic manufacturers are increasingly capable of competing on a global scale. Looking at product diversity, many of the top companies specialize in safety shoes, protective clothing, and general workwear, with some even exporting their goods internationally. Geographically, companies from Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces dominate, with about ten each listed. In contrast, only one company from Shaanxi made the list, while no enterprises from other western regions were selected. Customer satisfaction surveys showed that most of the top 50 companies received positive feedback. Chen Hong, chairman of Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Friendship Special Supply Co., Ltd., noted that while domestic companies have improved in brand management, there is still room for growth. “We must be bold and proud of our Chinese brands,” he emphasized. This survey not only reflects the progress of the Chinese labor protection industry but also signals a shift in perception. With continued efforts, domestic brands are well on their way to becoming strong competitors in the global market.
