**Precautions for the Construction of Bentonite Waterproof Blanket (GCL)**
1. **Storage and Transportation**: The bentonite composite waterproof blanket (GCL) must be stored in a dry, shaded, and protected environment to prevent moisture and direct sunlight exposure. When storing, it should be placed on elevated platforms to avoid contact with the ground. GCL materials delivered to the site should be used on the same day to ensure optimal performance and prevent degradation.
2. **Protection During Construction**: After completing a section of GCL installation, it is crucial to protect the material from damage caused by human activity or construction processes. Ensure that no heavy objects or tools are dropped onto the GCL, and keep the area free from unnecessary disturbances.
3. **Foot Traffic and Machinery**: Avoid walking on the GCL with sharp footwear such as nails or high heels. Similarly, vehicles and construction machinery should not be driven over the GCL to prevent physical damage or compression. If unavoidable, use temporary protective coverings or walkways to minimize risk.
4. **Installation of Protective Layers**: In the case of GM/GCL composite liners, the GCL should be covered with either an HDPE film or a 300mm-thick clay protective layer on the same day it is installed. If these layers cannot be completed within the same day, the GCL must be properly covered to protect it from rain, snow, and excessive sunlight, which can cause premature hydration and reduce effectiveness.
5. **Backfilling for Single-Layer Liners**: For single-layer GCL installations, after completion and inspection, it is important to backfill with soil, sand, or stone that has a specific gravity greater than 2.0. The backfill material must not contain any gravel larger than 10mm to avoid puncturing the GCL. The backfill thickness should be at least 30cm, and the compaction level should not fall below 85% to ensure stability and long-term performance.
