Nylatron/Nylon

Nylon refers to a group of plastics known as Polyamides. They are identified by amide groups (which are commonly known as CONH) and consist of a wide range of materials and grades. These include Nylon 6, Nylon 66, Nylon GS and Nylon GSM. All grades have their own range of properties and applications.

Nylon can be used as a replacement for bronze, aluminum, steel and other metals, especially in bearing and wear applications. As a grade, Nylon offers excellent wear resistance, high tensile strength as well as a high heat distortion temperature.

Nylatron GS and Nylatron GSM : Differences and Similarities

Nylatron® GS is a molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) filled Nylon that offers improved strength and rigidity. With a lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion, Nylatron GS parts are able to maintain better fit and clearances. They are also less inclined to seize as bearings. Their Temperature range varies from -20°C to +95°C (-20°C to +70°C in water).

Nylatron® GSM contains finely divided particles of molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) that help enhance its load bearing capabilities while also maintaining the impact resistance that is inherent to Nylon. It is the most commonly used grade for applications like gears, sheaves, sprockets and custom parts. Their temperature range varies from -30°C to +105°C (-30°C to +70°C in water). At Ai Plastics, we offer Nylatron GMS in both rods and sheets. Rod sizes vary between 50 mm up to 200 mm while sheets come in sizes ranging between 10 mm to 60 mm thickness.
