As a result, many distributors are forced to terminate their sales agreements with manufacturers early. This situation has led to heavy inventory pressures and deepened the pessimism among downstream players in the hardware sector. A few days ago, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the "Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan for the Building Materials Industry," which highlights the significant growth of the sector during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan period. However, with the tightening credit conditions and slower investment growth, the demand for building materials is expected to slow down in the coming years. According to the plan, while the average annual growth rate of major building materials was between 10.5% and 15.7% during the Eleventh Five-Year Period, it is projected to drop to 2.6% to 4.0% in the Twelfth Five-Year Period. The market is often a good indicator of industry health. Rising costs and a cooling construction and decoration market are two key factors contributing to the slowdown in the hardware industry. Mr. Cui, a hardware and building materials dealer, explained that the current price hikes are due to increased procurement costs. He admitted that with rising prices of raw materials like steel and aluminum, the cost of construction hardware has gone up by over 10%, and profit margins have dropped significantly—from around 60% a few years ago to just 20% today. This trend is making it harder for small businesses to survive in an already competitive market.
